I wished for a unicorn.
I wished so hard

That I found a unicorn
In my backyard.

I was sitting alone
By our old oak tree

When I saw a unicorn
Looking at me.

He was kind of scruffy
And he'd lost his horn.

But I knew at once
He was a unicorn.

He didn't have a mane.
His tail wagged around.

He chomped on a bone
Dug up from the ground.

His ears flopped about
In a happy way.

His tongue hung out
'Cause he wanted to play.

He didn't neigh softly,
As unicorns do.

He barked and he he howled
And he yowled ---- aaaaOOOO!

But he was a unicorn
Without any doubt.

He pawed and he pranced
And he galloped about.

Then he led me away
To a magical wood,

As only a real live
Unicorn could.

We crept and we crawled
Under darkening skies,

Past creatures that frowned,
'Round trees that had eyes.

We spotted a castle
That rose in the air.

We rushed to its moat ---
What danger lurked there?

'Cross the water we flew
With a leap and a bound

And landed --- KERPLOP! ---
On the castle's hard ground.

We spied magic wands
Near a secret door

And stormed the castle
With a thunderous roar!

We zapped a fierce dragon
And stopped it from flying.

We shrunk an evil wizard ---
He ran away crying!

We found a treasure map,
All crumpled and old.

So we fled from the castle
To find buried gold.

We dug a hundred holes
And we dug them deep,

Till we both grew tired
And fell fast asleep.

But when I woke up
With a stretch and a yawn,

There was only my dog
Asleep on the lawn.

I think that tomorrow
When I go out to play,

I'll wish once again
For a unicorn day.

I'll wish for a unicorn
Under my tree,

And I bet that I'll find
A unicorn for me!

然后着陆--扑通！--

落在城堡坚硬的土地上

我们发现一根魔杖

在一道秘密之门附近

我们以雷一般的咆哮

对着城堡狂吼

我们打败了一只凶猛的巨龙

让它再也飞不起来

还击退了邪恶的巫师

他哭着逃跑了

我们找到一张藏宝图

又皱又旧

于是我们离开城堡

去找寻埋藏的金银

我们挖了一百个洞

挖得那么深

直到把我们都累坏了

很快沉入梦乡

但是当我醒来

伸着懒腰打着呵欠

我发现只有我的小狗

在草地上熟睡

我想着等明天

当我出去玩耍的时候

我会再次期盼

终有一天真的拥有一只独角兽

Blue Kangaroo belongesd to Lily.

He was her very own kangaroo.

Every night, Lily said,

"I love you, Blue Kangaroo!"

And Blue Kangaroo fell fast asleep in Lily's arms.

Then one day, Lily's aunt Jemima came for lunch.

She gave Lily a wild brown bear.

He was huggable and furry, with wild brown eyes.

That night, Lily took the wild brown bear

up to bed with her. She said,

"I love Wild Brown Bear...

...and I love you, Blue Kangaroo!"

Blue Kangaroo didn't sleep quite so well after that.

The next Saturday, Lily's mother's friend Florence came to tea. She gave

Lily a yellow cotton rabbit.

He was floppy and fleecy, with velvety ears.

That night, as Lily got ready for bed, she said,

"I love Yellow Cotton Rabbit...

...I love Wild Brown Bear,

and I love you, Blue Kangaroo!"

Blue Kangaroo hardly slept at all after that.

Then jolly Uncle George came to stay.

He gave Lily two furry puppies.

They were cuddly and fluffy, with shiny black noses.

That night, as Lily put her pajamas on, she said,

"I love the Furry Puppies...

I love Yellow Cotton Rabbit,.

I love Wild Brown Bear,

and I love you, Blue Kangaroo!"

After that, Blue Kangaroo hardly slept a wink.

On Lily's birthday, Mrs. Appleby gave Lily a wiggly green crocodile,

and her great-uncle Arthur gave her a long-eared owl.

Lily's cousin, Amelia, gave her a little tiny teddy.

That night, as lily brushed her teeth, she said,

"I love Tiny Teddy, I love Long-Eared Owl, I love Wiggly Green Crocodile...

I love the Furry Puppies,

I love Yellow Cotton Rabbit,

I love Wild Brown Bear,

and I love you, Blue Kangaroo!"

Blue Kangaroo lay on the edge of the bed and stared at the ceiling.

In the middle of the night, Lily rolled over.

The Tiny Teddy rolled over.

Then Long-Eared Owl rolled over.

Then Wiggly Green Crocodile rolled over.

Then the Furry Puppies rolled over.

The Yellow Cotton Rabbit Rolled over.

Then Wild Brown BEar rolled over...

...And Blue Kangaroo rolled out of bed, onto the floor.

He looked up at Lily and the sleeping creatures.

"There's just no room for me anymore," he said sadly,

and he hopped across the carpet and out the door.

He hopped along the hallway

to the baby's room,

and he hopped up

into the baby's warm crib.

"Goo goo,boo gangaloo!"

gurgled the baby

as he squeezed Blue Kangaroo

tightly in his little ink fists.

The next day, Lily looked everywhere

for Blue Kangaroo.

"Goo goo, boo gangaloo!" cooed the baby.

"Mine!" cried the baby.

"No!" shouted Lily.

"Lily!" said her mother. "You've got too many animals.

Surely you can let the baby have just one?"

"Not Blue Kangaroo!" cried Lily.

Lily ran to her room and when she came back,

her arms were full.

"He can have all of these," she said,

"but nobody can have Blue Kangaroo!"

That night, the baby went to bed with

the wild brown bear, the yellow cotton rabbit,

the furry puppies, the wiggly green crocodile,

the long-eared owl, and the little tiny teddy.

Lily went to bed with Blue Kangaroo.

Blue Kangaroo snuggled up to Lily. She stroked his

blue ears; then she kissed the tip of his soft blue nose.

"I love you, Blue Kangaroo!" she said ...

...and Blue Kangaroo

fell fast asleep

in her arms.

"咕咕,布,甘嘎鲁!"

小娃娃咯咯地笑着,

紧紧地将蓝袋鼠握在他的小黑拳头里

第二天,莉莉到处找

她的蓝袋鼠

"咕咕,布,甘嘎鲁!"

小娃娃咕咕地叫着

"我的"小娃娃哭着喊道

"才不!"莉莉吼他

"莉莉!"妈妈叫道

"Happy birthday to her then," said Mr. Rabbit. "What Are you giving her?"

"That's just it," said the little girl. "That's why I want help. I havenothing to give her."

"I would like to give her something that she likes," said the little girl."Something that she likes is a good present," said Mr. Rabbit.

"But what?" said the little girl.

"Red," said Mr. Rabbit. "You can't give her red."

"Something red, maybe," said the little girl.

"Emeralds," said the rabbit. "Emeralds make a lovely gift."

"I can't afford an emerald," said the little girl.

"Parrots are green," said Mr. Rabbit, "but she likes birds in trees."

"No," said the little girl, "parrots won't do."

"Peas and spinach," said Mr. Rabbit. "Peas are green. Spinach is green.""No," said the little girl. "We have those for dinner all the time."

"Caterpillars," said Mr. Rabbit. "Some of them are very green."

"She doesn't care for caterpillars," the little girl said.

"How about pears?" said Mr. Rabbit. "Bartlett pears?"

"The very thing," said the little girl. "That's the very thing.

Now I have apples and bananas and pears, but I need something else."

"What else does she like?" said Mr. Rabbit.

"She likes blue," the little girl said.

"Blue. You can't give her blue," said Mr. Rabbit.

"Something blue, maybe," said the little girl.

"Lakes are blue," said the rabbit.

"But I can't give her a lake, you know," said the little girl.

"Stars are blue."

"I can't give her stars," the little girls said, "but I would if I could.""Sapphires make a lovely gift," said Mr. Rabbit.

"But I can't afford sapphires, either," said the little girl.

"Bluebirds are blue, but she likes birds in trees," said Mr. Rabbit.

"Right," said the little girl.

"How about blue grapes?" said Mr. Rabbit.

"Yes," said the little girl. "That is good, very good. She likes grapes.
Now I have apples and pears and bananas and grapes."

"That makes a good gift," said Mr. Rabbit. "All you need now is a basket.""I have a basket," said the little girl.

So she took her basket and she filled it with the green pears and the yellowbananas and the red apples and the blue grapes. It made a lovely present.

"Thank you for your help, Mr. Rabbit," said the little girl.

"Not at all," said Mr. Rabbit. "Very glad to help."

"Good-by, now," said the little girl.

"Good-by," said Mr. Rabbit, "and a happy birthday and a happy basket offruit to your mother."

"妈妈她可不喜欢毛毛虫,"小姑娘说.

"梨儿怎么样呢?"兔先生说."巴特莱特梨怎么样?"

"就是它了,"小姑娘说,"那真是太合适不过了."

"现在我们已经有苹果香蕉和梨儿,不过再有点其他东西就更好了."

"她还喜欢些什么呢?"兔先生问.

"她还喜欢蓝色,"小姑娘说.

"蓝色.你也不能把蓝色直接当礼物送吧."兔先生说.

"但是我也买不起蓝宝石,"小姑娘说.

"蓝色知更鸟是蓝色的,但是她喜欢的是树上的鸟儿,"兔先生说.

"对啊,"小姑娘说.

"蓝葡萄如何?"兔先生说.

"对啊,"小姑娘说,"这个好,这个非常好,她喜欢葡萄."

"现在我们有苹果梨儿香蕉还有葡萄."

"那已经组成一份很棒的礼物啦,"兔先生说."你唯一还缺的就是个大篮子."

"我有个篮子呢,"小姑娘说.

于是她拿出篮子,把绿色梨儿,黄色的香蕉,红色的苹果还有蓝色的葡萄统统装了进去.

它们真是份诱人的礼物啊!

"谢谢你帮忙,兔先生,"小姑娘说.

"没什么,"兔先生说,"我很高兴能帮到你呢."

"那么再见了,"兔先生说,

"开心的生日和开心的果篮通通送给开心的妈妈喽."

cardinals 是一种在北美很常见的鸟，字典上叫做北美红雀。早上，我还在树林里看到了。它像燕子差不多大小，火红的羽毛，头顶有一簇鸟冠，有点像鹦鹉头上的。和红衣主教的袍子一样的颜色，估计由此得名的。叫起来也很好听。这里，兔子先生应该是推荐这种鸟，可小姑娘说，妈妈喜欢鸟在树上，而不是捉起来放到鸟笼里的意思。

a happy basket of fruit 要表达的意思就是说这篮水果看上去就能让人开心的意思了。就像说a happy face,a happy cake，只要开心，什么都是happy的。Happy birthday 是一句惯用语，a happy basket of fruit是由这个词组修改引申的，所以两个合在一起，这个话说成中文就很难简单的一句话表达了。所以你这样意译，应该没问题。或者看我篡改成这样：

“再见，”兔子先生说，“开心的生日和开心的果篮通通送给开心的妈妈喽！”

水果。Bartlett是个品种的名字。是人名或地名不得而知。卖的时候是绿色的，硬

的，买回家放些日子，就变黄变软了，很好吃。不过我还是非常怀念北京的又甜又

脆的鸭梨。

另外，红衣小鸟，我觉得就译成红雀更忠实原文。因为，原文是red cardinal，特

指出了鸟的种类，而红衣小鸟是泛指的。

是啊，关于翻译，是非常不简单的，就像这么个故事，里面的一些东西，要真的生

活在这个环境里才知道的。我刚看了纯真那边有个文章写任溶溶把E.B.White的小说

译成了鸡肋。任溶溶是老资格的翻译家，我不敢妄自菲薄。不过从一个侧面说明，

翻译要想忠实原文，是非常难的。不光外语好，还要有生活在那个环境里的细节的

积累，更还要有非常深厚的中文功底。这些都不是一朝一夕的事，而且真的很难做

到，除非特别细心用功的人。我看阿洼就真的很用心呢。我就再多找好故事贴上来

给大家分享。

俺得说一句，任老先生的翻译，实在算不上翻译大家。拿杨静远，周克希，傅惟慈等人来说事，我恐怕更服气一些。:p

昨天出门了，刚进屋打开电脑看到千金妈妈的回复很是开心。我把红衣小鸟改过来改成红雀。

The Wolf's Chicken Stew

There once lived a wolf who

loved to eat more than anything

else in the world. As soon as he

finished one meal, he began to

think of the next.

One day the wolf got a terrible

craving for chicken stew.

All day long he walked across

the forest in search of delicious

chicken. Finally he spotted one.

"Ah, she is just perfect for my

stew," he thought.

The wolf crept closer. But

just as he was about to grab

his prey...

he had another idea.

"If there were just some way to

fatten this bird a little more," he

thought, "there would be all the

more stew for me." So...

the wolf ran home to his kitchen,

and he began to cook.

First he made a hundred scrumptious

pancakes. Then, late at night,

he left them on the chicken's porch.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken,"

he cried. "Get nice and fat for my

stew!"

The next night he brought a

hundred scrumptious doughnuts.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken,"

he cried. "Get nice and fat for my

stew!"

And on the next night he brought

a scrumptious cake weighing a hundred pounds.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken,"

he cried. "Get nice and fat for my

stew!"

At last, all was ready. This was the

night he had been waiting for. He

put a large stew pot on the fire

and set out joyfully to find his

dinner.

"That chicken must be as fat as a

balloon by now," he thought.

"Let's see."

But as he peeked into the

chicken's house...

the door opened suddenly and the chicken

screeched,"Oh, so it was you, Mr. Wolf!"

"Children, children! Look, the

pancakes and the doughnuts

and that scrumptious cake -

they weren't from Santa Claus!

All those presents were from

Uncle Wolf!"

The baby chicks jumped all over

the wolf and gave him a hundred kisses.

"Oh, thank you, Uncle Wolf!

You're the best cook in the world!"

Uncle Wolf didn't have chicken

stew that night but Mrs. Chicken

fixed him a nice dinner anyway.

"Aw, shucks," he thought, as

he walked home, "maybe tomorrow

I'll bake the little critters a

hundred scrumptious cookies!"

老狼的黄焖鸡

从前有只好吃的狼

除了吃

这世界上就再没他喜欢的事儿

刚吃完这顿，他又开始

想下一顿了

有一天

老狼的黄焖鸡瘾无法抑制地爆发了

一整天啊他都在森林里搜寻

美味的小鸡儿

最后终于让他找着了一只。

“啊，她正是我的小鸡啊，”他想道。

老狼蹑手蹑脚地逼近。

但是当他正要抓住那美食的时候...

他有了另一个主意

"如果有什么办法让这个小鸡子儿长肥点的话,"他想,

"我不就可以吃到更多."于是...

老狼跑回自己的厨房

开始烧饭

他先做了一百个

极美味的烤薄饼.

在那天晚上,

老狼把薄饼

放在小鸡住的走廊上.

"好好吃吧,我美丽的小鸡儿,"

他兴奋地喊着."让我的黄焖鸡变得又美又肥!"

第二天晚上

老狼又带来一百个绝妙的甜甜圈.

"好好吃吧,我美丽的小鸡儿,"

他兴奋地喊着."让我的黄焖鸡变得又美又肥!"

最后,一切准备就绪.

正是老狼期待已久的夜晚.

他在火上放好一只很大很大的焖烧锅

然后满怀欣喜地出发

去找他的午饭.

"现在,那只小鸡应该肥得和个气球差不多了吧,"他想着.

"让我来瞧瞧."

但是当他朝鸡房里瞧的时候...

门猛地开了,

小鸡尖叫道:"欧,那么就是您啊,狼先生!"

"孩子们,孩子们!快看啊,烤薄饼和甜甜圈,还有那美味的蛋糕--

不是圣诞老人给咱们的!

所有的礼物都是狼叔叔送来的啊!"

鸡宝宝们跳到老狼的背上

给了他一百个吻.

"欧,谢谢你,狼叔叔!

你是这世界上最棒的厨师呀!"

那晚上狼叔叔虽然没吃成黄焖鸡

但是鸡太太却给老狼准备了一次丰盛的大餐.

"欧,真是,"在回家的路上老狼想

我明天岂不是得给那群小东西

做一百个美味的小点心!

donut是油炸的，甜的，国内有叫甜甜圈的。 pancake是一种早餐的主食，是摊开的软饼，配枫叶糖浆和黄油，cookie是一般我们北京桃酥大小的东西，一般都是面粉糖黄油加其它点缀的配料烤成的，这几种东西都是小孩子(包括一切爱甜食的人喜欢的，热量极高，怪不得老狼要用这些来喂小母鸡。

阿洼，忘了一段蛋糕的。最后一段午餐是大餐吧。:)

肉丝那个，碾磨，实际就是磨坊，图上是画了磨坊的。

肉丝的散步

走过磨坊
