Was singing one day
She went up to her Grandpa
To hear what he’d say:

Crocodiles are our cousins!

“Our front legs for digging
Are flat, wide and strong.
We make dens and burrows -
They’re deep and they’re long.
“We return to these burrows -
It’s there we can hide.
When predators hunt us
We’re safely inside.
“我们用来挖土的前腿
四平八稳、不知疲惫。
我们挖出一个又一个
通往深深地下的洞穴。
“这是我们自己的安乐窝——
随时随地可以往里面躲。
让那些捕猎的去瞎折腾
我们只需要关好家门。

With our strong bony shell.
We just tuck head and tail in

“Then nothing can hurt us!

Her grandfather said.
“Some live to a hundred-
Some die young instead.
“Our desert is changing -
It’s people, you know
They like to move quickly.
They rarely go slow.
“They build malls and highways
They need lots of room.
But tortoises worry -
Are we facing our doom?
“有些乌龟活到了六十多，”
沙丽的爷爷说，
“有些活到了一百岁，
也有些年轻轻就把黄泉归。”
“我们的沙漠在变更——
你知道，是因为那些人，
他们喜欢急速运动
对慢跑可一点不热衷。
“他们铺开商业街和高速路，
他们需要数不清的房屋。
而乌龟却在担忧——
这种日子会不会很快到头？
