这是一本简单得不能再简单的书，这同时也是一本“很不简单”的书。赫赫，为什么这么说呢？因为单纯地从文字和绘画来看，本书实在简单，每页就那么一句话，寥寥数字。但是，请注意这个但是，在这本书的每页的寥寥数字后面，都隐藏着丰富的内容。这是一本非常合适做“扩展阅读”的书。它同时也是一本简单韵文书，一本“I SPY”的小小游戏书。。一书之多功能，在它身上体现得极为完美，让任何接触过它的人都会深深地喜欢上它。

“Tom Thumb in the cupboard I spy Mother Hubbard”。有关这个“MOTHERHUBBARD”，我想可能很多国内人知道得不多，她是一个英文童谣中的人物，童谣是这样的：“Old Mother Hubbard, wentto the cupboard, to give the poor dog a bone. When she came there, thecupboard was bare, and so the poor dog hadnone......"后面还有很长，就是讲她和这条狗之间的事情。

当然，不要忘了书中每个画面中时常出现过的小角色——两只兔子一只鸟。。整个故事的游戏性和完整性都体现出来了。

貌似简单的这么一本小书，内里乾坤大。很多经典的绘本都是这样的，亲子阅读的时候，妈妈甚至要提前做一点功课；这本书读完了，后继的延伸阅读要跟上。。而经典的魅力也就在于此，读书中不但有游戏，跟重要的，还有学习，对一些文化背景的了解。。一本书的起步，可能后面可以连带出几本甚至更多的书和故事。
