An unruly lamb speaks out
　　Mum
　　(What now?)
　　What are you doing?
　　(Eating grass)
　　Why? You’re always eating grass.
　　Is there anything else to do around and about?
　　(I don’t know)
　　Well, everyone just seems to eat grass all day
　　Do you like it then?

　　妈妈！
　　（怎么啦？）
　　你在做什么呢？
　　（吃草呀！）
　　为什么？你老是在吃草呢
　　这附近没有别的事可以做了吗？
　　（我不知道哦！）
　　嗯！每个人似乎只会整天吃草
　　那么，你也喜欢那样啰？
　　（你会明白的）
　　
　　
　　Mum
　　(What is it?)
　　There’s a funny man looking at me
　　(He’s just a rambler)
　　He’s got a camera. He’s coming towards us and seems to be pointing and talking
　　(Just ignore him. Look away)
　　I’m coming to stand underneath you for cover, get out of his road like
　　(Yes, that’s it)
　　I’m just going over there now
　　(Where)
　　Over there, into that field
　　(This is our field)
　　But I wondered what’s going on in that field, you know
　　If there’s anything else to do
　　(Like what? Don’t wander too far)

　　妈妈！
　　（啥事？）
　　有个奇怪的人对着我瞧呢！
　　（他只是个闲逛的）
　　他有个相机，他正朝着我们走过来并且指指点点的
　　（装作没看见，看别的地方）
　　我要躲在你的脚下，避开他，免得被他瞧见
　　（好呀！就这样做）
　　我现在要过去了哦！
　　（去哪儿呢？）
　　过去那个牧场呀！
　　（这是我们的牧场哦！）
　　你知道的，我想知道那个牧场会发生什么稀奇的事
　　是不是有别的事可以做呢？
　　（比方说？别跑太远哦！）

　　(What is it now?)
　　I’ve been into that field
　　(Right)
　　There are some cows there you know
　　(*Fascinating*)
　　Are you still eating grass?
　　(Er, yes)
　　But you can’t still be hungry surely, can you mum?
　　(You don’t understand a sheep’s vocation)
　　What‘s a vocation mum?
　　Will I be a sheep one day?
　　(With luck you will. With skill, ingenuity and cunning. Just keep eating the grass. Don‘t look anybody in the eye, that‘s the thing)
　　And will I eat grass all day mum, like you?
　　(Whether you want to or not my son)
　　Don’t you ever get sick of it?
　　Have you ever thought of eating anything else?
　　Hey - a bumblebee. Look. Look at him!
　　I can play with him
　　(I don’t think he likes it)
　　(No. I don‘t think he liked that, did he. Stay close to me)
　　There must be more variety to life. Is there, mum?

　　妈妈！
　　（又怎么啦？）
　　我去过那块草地了
　　（很好！）
　　你知道的，那里有一些牛
　　（好极了！）
　　你还在吃草？
　　（噢！对呀！）
　　但是你还是不确定，自己是不是真的饿了，你肯定吗？妈妈！
　　（你不懂羊的工作啦！）
　　什么是“工作”？妈妈！
　　有一天我会变成羊吗？
　　（你很幸运，你会变成一只聪明又有本事的羊，只要吃草，不要用眼睛看任何人，就这样。）
　　我会像你一样整天吃草吗？
　　（随你自己呀！孩子！）
　　你这样吃草没有生过病吗？
　　你有没有想过“吃点别的”？
　　啊哈！有只黄蜂！看！看他！
　　我可以和他玩了
　　（我想，他不喜欢的）
　　（不，我不认为他喜欢，他会喜欢吗？留在我身边！）
　　那里的生活一定更精彩，是吗？妈妈？

　　(What do you want now?)
　　I’m just going to play over there by the woods
　　And see what’s up there, you know
　　(You’ll soon come gambolling back. You always do)
　　I just thought I’d find out if there’s anything up there, you know, in the woods
　　I couldn’t get through the gate. It was all locked up with padlocks
　　(Surprise, surprise. Come over here)
　　It’s not fair being cooped up like we are. Are we locked in, mum?
　　(We like it this way)
　　Yeah, you and all the rest of the sheep. Look at them munching away
　　What about us lambs, eh? What about us?
　　I hope I always stay a lamb
　　(One day you’ll be a sheep. I hope)
　　“Then I’ll understand...”

　　妈妈！
　　（你要做什么呀？）
　　我正想到树丛那边玩，看看那里有什么，你知道的
　　（你要快点回来哦，就像你常做的那样，跳着跑回来）
　　我只是想看看那里有什么，你知道的，就在树丛里
　　我出不去呀！所有的门都上锁了
　　（真糟呀！怎么会这样呢？到我这里来）
　　不公平！我们这样被锁着，我们被关在里面对吗？妈妈？
　　（我们喜欢这样的 ）
　　是呀！你和其它的羊都喜欢的。瞧！他们津津有味地嚼个不停呢！
　　我们小羊是怎样的呢？哼哼！我们是怎样的？
　　我希望我永远是一只小羊
　　（我希望有一天你会长大变成一只大羊）
　　“到时候我就明白…”
　　（“到时候你就明白了”）
