One July night the Big Cat went
To warn the cats and kittens all,
At six o’clock that very night
To gather in Grimalkin Hall.
Now listen, Babies, why it was
The cats and kittens,one and all,
Were called upon to go in haste
And gather in Grimalkin Hall.
“We will no longer plaything be!”
The old cats cried with mew and squall.
“Cast shall no more be pulled and squeezed!
Down with babies, say we all!
They hurt and choke us with their hugs.
And pull our fur and let us fall:
Here after any cat may scratch!”
