Brewery of Eggshells

IN Treneglwys there is a certain shepherd's cot known by the name of Twt y Cymrws because of the strange strife that occurred there. There once lived there a man and his wife, and they had twins whom the woman nursed tenderly. One day she was called away to the house of a neighbour at some distance. She did not much like going and leaving her little ones [224] all alone in a solitary house, especially as she had heard tell of the good folk haunting the neighbourhood.
在川茵，有一个很有名气的小屋，它原来属于牧羊人，因为发生了件奇怪的事情，所以有个奇怪的名字：藤条·蛋·孪生。在那里曾经住着一个男人和他的妻子。他们生了一对双胞胎。女人对她的孩子照顾的极为细心。有天，她被叫去了一个远处的邻居家，她不怎么想去，更舍不得把小宝贝们丢在空房子里，因为她听过奇怪的传言，有什么在附近出没。
Well, she went and came back as soon as she could, but on her way back she was frightened to see some old elves of the blue petticoat crossing her path though it was midday. She rushed home, but found her two little ones in the cradle and everything seemed as it was before.
所以嘛，女人想着早点去早点回，但是路上，她惊恐地发现——迷雾中有什么挡着路？许多穿着蓝色衬裙的小精灵？她飞奔回家，看到两个孩子在摇篮里，一切正常。
But after a time the good people began to suspect that something was wrong, for the twins didn't grow at all.
The man said: "They're not ours."
The woman said: "Whose else should they be?"
但是过不了多久，这对夫妻觉得出了点问题，因为双胞胎一点也没长大。
男人说：“他们不是我们的小孩。”
女人反问“那该是谁的？”
And so arose the great strife so that the neighbours named the cottage after it. It made the woman very sad, so one evening she made up her mind to go and see the Wise Man of Llanidloes, for he knew everything and would advise her what to do.
结果他们大吵了一架。后来，邻居们给农庄起了个怪名字。女人很伤心，一天晚上，她下定决心，去见拉多这片土地的智者。无所不知的智者可以告诉她要怎么做。
So she went to Llanidloes and told the case to the Wise Man. Now there was soon to be a harvest of rye and oats, so the Wise Man said to her, "When you are getting dinner for the reapers, clear out the shell of a hen's egg and boil some potage in it, and then take it to the door as if you meant it as a dinner for the reapers. Then listen if the twins say anything. If you hear them speaking of things beyond the understanding of children, go back and take them up and throw them into the waters of Lake Elvyn. But if you don't hear anything remarkable, do them no injury."
她去了拉多，告诉智者她的麻烦。就快到收获黑麦和燕麦的时候了，智者对女人说，“准备晚宴，清理出一个蛋壳，在里面煮些浓汤，然后把它放在门边，就像是请收获的人吃饭一样。那时候，听听双胞胎说了什么。如果你听到他们说些不像孩子说的话，就把他们扔到哀湖里。但是，要没听到什么特别的，就不要紧了。
So when the day of the reap came the woman did all that the Wise Man ordered, and put the eggshell on the fire and took it off and carried it to the door, and there she stood [225] and listened. Then she heard one of the children say to the other:
收获的那天到了，女人按照智者说的做了，她把蛋壳放在火里，过了会儿取出来放在门边，接着她站着偷听，一个孩子对另一个孩子说：
Acorn before oak I knew,
An egg before a hen,
But I never heard of an eggshell brew
A dinner for harvest men.

但我可从没听过蛋壳酿酒，
在丰收的饭桌上。
So she went back into the house, seized the children and threw them into the Llyn, and the goblins in their blue trousers came and saved their dwarfs and the mother had her own children back and so the great strife ended.
她进了屋，抓住孩子把他们丢进了哀湖，穿着蓝色裤子的小精灵赶紧来救他们矮小的伙伴。妈妈找回了自己的孩子。于是，大混乱结束了。
