俺之前从来没有翻译过文学作品，第一次把翻译的东西发上来， 还是有点忐忑，等着被拍……

美女和野兽

4.Once upon a time, there lived a merchant's daughter so lovely and kind that all who knew her called her Beauty.
从前，有个商人，他有一个可爱的女儿，心地非常善良，认识她的人都叫她美女。
5.She lived with her father and two sisters in wealth and without worry.Then the merchant met with great losses and the family, suddenly penniless, fled to a country cottage. The man and his children were forced to do the work of peasants. Two of the sisters could only remember their former fine life, and cried and grumbled. But Beauty worked on bravely, and tried to comfort her father.
Time passed, until one day news came that one of the merchant's ships, long lost, had arrived in port. Hoping to restore his fortune, the merchant decided to meet the ship. Before leaving he called his three daughters to him. He asked them what they missed most from their old life, as he wanted bring back a present for each.
美女和父亲及两个姐姐过着富裕无忧的生活。可是，商人生意上遭受了重创，突然间变得一贫如洗。一家人只好离开城市来到乡下的一间农舍里居住。父亲和孩子被迫干上了农活。两个姐姐只是一味地沉浸在对往日美好生活的回忆中， 整日哭泣、抱怨，美女却勇敢地干起了农活，并试图安慰伤心的父亲。
日子一天天过去……直到有一天，有个消息传来，说商人很久以前丢失的一只货船现在已经到达码头。商人希望能借助船上的这批货物重振生意，决定去码头看看……出发前，他把三个女儿叫到跟前，问她们对往昔美好生活最想念的是什么，因为他回来时，要给每个女儿带一份礼物。
6.The first sister asked for rich gowns, since her closet now held only rags. The second asked for a coach and four horses, since she was now forced to ride upon a donkey. But Beauty asked only for a rose, since the garden was now taken up with cabbages.
大女儿说她要一些昂贵的袍子，因为她现在的衣服已经破旧，二女儿想要一辆马车和四匹马，因为她现在外出只能骑着驴子。美女则只要一朵玫瑰花，因为现在的花园里种的全是卷心菜。
7. Upon reaching the ship, the merchant found the cargo spoiled and worthless. Poorer than ever, he could not afford a night's lodging, and was forced to return home through threatening weather.
He pushed through a deep forest until snow covered the track and he was hopelessly lost. Just when he felt he could no longer go on, he saw an awenue of orange trees, untouched by the snow, and beyond them a grand palace.
商人到船上查看，发现他的货物全都损坏，一文不值。他甚至比以前还要穷，连支付一夜旅馆的钱都没有，只好冒着暴风雪连夜往家赶。
商人艰难地穿过一片茂密的森林，纷纷扬扬的大雪把他沿途的脚印完全覆盖，他迷路了……当他绝望地准备放弃，却看到前面有一条两边种着橘子树的小路，奇怪的是这条小路丝毫没有白雪，在小路的尽头，还有一个宏伟的宫殿。
8. As the merchant approached the palace the doors opened up before him. Inside he found himself in a great hall, with a blazing fire and a sumptuous meal waiting. Strangely, he saw no one about. He dined, and soon fell asleep in his chair.
The next morning the merchant awoke to find his wet clothes replaced with fine garments. Again he saw on one, not master, or servant, or any person in the house. When he stepped outside to go home, he met another kindness. A magnificent horse, fitted out for a journey, stood waiting for him.
当商人走近宫殿时，门一扇扇的开了。他发现自己置身于一个宽敞大厅，里面壁火烧得旺旺的，还有一桌丰盛的晚餐在等着他。可奇怪的是，里面没有一个人。商人吃饱后，很快坐在椅子上睡着了……
第二天早上，当商人醒来时，发现身上湿漉漉的衣服已经脱下，换上了华美精致的外套。这次，他还是没有看见一个人，没有主人，没有仆人，没有任何其他人。当商人走出宫殿，准备回家时，又意外的发现外面已经备好马，配好鞍，等着送他回家。
9. Just as he was about to mount the animal and be on his way, the merchant spied a bed of beautiful roses. Remembering his promise to Beauty, he knelt to pluck one.
No sooner had the stem snapped than the merchant heard a dreadful, angry roar. Turning around he saw a fearsome beast coming toward him. "How dare you harm my roses?" bellowed the Beast,"A rose that's cut can only die."
Reaching for his sword, the Beast cried," You shall pay for your ingratitude with your life!"
The terrified merchat fell to his knees. "I have taken this rose only as a gift for one of my daughters, the faithful Beauty." he pleaded.
商人准备跨上骏马上路时，意外地瞥见花圃里有许多美丽的玫瑰花。想起了他对美女的承诺，商人屈膝摘下一朵玫瑰花。
商人刚把玫瑰花从枝头上折断，就听到一个可怕、愤怒的吼声传来。一扭头，看见一个可怕的野兽朝他走来。"你怎么胆敢折断我的玫瑰花？"野兽咆哮道，"玫瑰花一旦被折下，就只有死！"
野兽一边抽出宝剑，一边嚷到，"你必须为你忘恩负义的行为付出生命的代价！"
吓坏了的商人双膝跪下，哀求道，"我摘下一朵玫瑰花，只是给我的一个女儿，忠诚的美女当礼物啊！"
10. Hearing this, the Beast stopped to reconsider. At last he growled, "I will spare your life, but only if one of your daughters willingly returns in your stead."
The merchant was unable to agree to such a bargain. After promising the Beast that he would return, he rode home to say good-bye to his children.
听到这些辩白，野兽停下来想了一会。他最终低吼到，"我将饶你不死，但条件是你女儿中必须有一个自愿代替你到我这来。"
商人无法同意这个条件，但是他向野兽许诺，他回家向女儿道别后一定会再回到野兽的宫殿。
11. It was a somber homecoming, for after the merchant gave Beauty the rose, he told the story of the grim Beast and his cruel punishment. But Beauty would not hear of her father's return to the palace and certain death. After all, he would never have plucked the rose if it weren't for her. She made up her mind to go at once in his place. And so strong was her resolve that the merchant could not dissuade her.
这趟回家之行无疑是悲伤的，商人把玫瑰花送到美女手上，讲述了可怕的野兽和他必须遭受的严酷惩罚的经过。美女无法同意父亲返回宫殿接受死亡的惩罚。毕竟，父亲是因为她才去采摘那朵玫瑰花的。美女下定决心要代替父亲去野兽的宫殿，就是商人也无法劝说她改变坚定的决心。
12. When father and daughter arrived at the palace of the Beast, the towering doors again opened as if by magic. They entered the great, empty hall and fear took hold of them. They heard the footfalls and saw a creature, part man and part animal of the forest, move toword them.
Overcoming her terror, Beauty stepped forward. "Good evening my lord." she said.
"Good evening," replied the creature. "But do not call me 'my lord', for I am a Beast, and you must call me so."
Not knowing what else to do, Beauty nodded. Then the Beast presented the merchant with a casket containing a fortune in coin and jewels. "This will restore your house handsomely," he said, "so now be gone." And with that the Beast walked off into the shadows.
The merchant bade a tearful farewell to Beauty. Then the great doors opened once more, and he rode away, leaving Beauty quite alone.
当父女俩来到野兽的宫殿前，巨大的门再次象施了魔法一样一扇扇自动开启。他们走进空荡荡的大厅，恐惧笼罩着他们。他们听到脚步声，看见一个怪物——一半是人，一半是森林动物——朝他们走来。
稍稍克服下自己的恐惧后，美女向前走上一步，"晚上好，我的主人。"她说道，
"晚上好，"怪物回答到，"但不要称呼我'主人'，因为我是一头野兽，所以你必须称呼我'野兽'。"
不知如何是好的美女只好点头答应。随后野兽把一盒装满了金币和珠宝的盒子放到商人手中。"用这些财宝重新建造你的房子，绰绰有余了！"野兽说道，"现在，你走吧！"说完这些，野兽走进了暗处。
商人流着眼泪与美女永别。巨大的门再次重重开启，商人骑马回家， 留下了孤独的美女。
13. Thus Beauty began her new life in the palace of the Beast. It soon became clear that she was in no danger, and that she was free to amuse herself in any way she wished. She wandered among the rooms and explored the galleries. Each provided a delightful new entertainment for her, as if her tastes were already known.
美女就这样开始了她在野兽宫殿的新生活。很快，美女发现自己在这的生活没有丝毫危险，甚至她还可以自由地选择她愿意的方式快乐的生活。她可以在各个房间游荡，可以在走廊里随意探奇。每个地方都为她提供了一种新奇、好玩的东西，好象她的各种兴趣有人已经提前知道一样。
14. A troop of monkeys all in court dress appeared to serve her. A charming little dog did duty as her page. In fact, animals of all sorts took the place of gardener, cook, and gamesman. A beautiful bird led her to her bedchamber, and Beauty saw that the room was filled with her favorite things and was thoroughly comfortable.
一队穿着宫廷服装的猴子服侍她，一只迷人的小狗当她的随从。实际上，园丁、厨师、逗乐等角色全是由各种动物担当的。一只美丽的小鸟把美女带到她的卧房，那里满是她最喜欢的东西，相当的舒适。
15. As evening approached ,candles throughout the house lit up by themselves.When dinner was served animal musicians played sweet music.It was then that the Beast approached. Beauty drew back, frightened at hte thought of dining with the creature, but the Beast's courtly manners disarmed her fears.
天色渐晚，整个房间的蜡烛都自己点燃。晚餐时，几个动物音乐家弹奏起悦耳的音乐。这时野兽走了进来，美女往后退缩着，想到要与这个怪物共进晚餐就很害怕。但是野兽温文儒雅的举止渐渐消除了她的恐惧。
16. After dinner the Beast reassured Beauty with charming counversation until it grew late. Then the Beast became solemn. At last he turned to her and said," Beauty, will you marry me?"
Beauty, lowering her eyes, replied,"Pray,don't ask me that."
晚餐后，野兽又用自己迷人的谈话使美女更加安心。他们交谈到很晚，突然，野兽表情严肃起来，最终他转身面向美女，说道，"美女，你愿意嫁给我吗？"
美女垂下了眼帘，幽幽地说到，"求您，不要问我这个。"
17. The days afterward followed much the same pattern,and they passed happily for Beauty. The daylight hours were filled with amusements. And Beauty started to look forward to dinner-time and her nightly talks with the Beast. His thoughtful ways began to win her trust.
日子就这样过去，美女每一天都过得很快乐。白天充满了各种有趣的消遣，美女开始期待晚上她与野兽共进晚餐、一起交谈的美好时光。野兽睿智、风趣的谈话开始赢得她的信任。
18. But always she dreaded the moment when he took his leave. For then he would always ask," Beauty,will you marry me?"
It grew more and more painful for her to lower her eyes and say," Pray don't ask me."
但她总是害怕夜晚离别时刻的到来，因为野兽总要在离开时说，"美女，你愿意嫁给我吗？"现在对美女而言，要垂下眼帘，拒绝野兽已经是越来越痛苦。
19. Then came a day that passed so happily that when the Beast came to her, Beauty spoke of hter great joy. "The flowers in the gardens have never been more beautiful,"she said. "And the musicians have never played more sweetly."
有一天，美女白天过得相当高兴，当野兽走近她时，她忍不住对他说出她无穷的快乐。"花园里的花从来没有象今天这样美丽，"她说，"演奏家从来没有象今天这样把曲子弹奏得如此悦耳动听。"
20.The Beast again asked for her hand, and with such tender hope that she said," I cannot marry you. Beast. But I will indeed stay here of my own accord as long as i shall live, if only you will grant me one request. Let me first say good-bye to my father and the world I leave behind."
野兽又拉着她的手，请求她嫁给他，美女这回温柔地说到，"我不能嫁给你，野兽。但是如果你答应我的一个条件，我就会真心地呆在您这，一直到老。我请求您让我回家跟父亲和我身后的世界先做一个道别。"
21. The Beast agreed to this, although a mournful look came over him. He gestured to the rescent moon and said," Return before the moon is full, faithful Beauty, or you will break your poor Beast's heart." Then he gave her a golden ring and said," When you wish to come back, turn this ring three times around your finger and say aloud, 'I want to be in the palace of the Beast again.'"

22.Within the instant, Beauty was back in the house of her childhood. She saw her father bartering for goods as of old. Her sisters were ordering their maids about as in former times. Finding Beauty in their midst, they all flew to her in amazement. They asked question after question about her strange life in the palace, and about the monster who ruled there.
Beauty tried to explain her admiration for the Beast and the wonders of the palace, but they did not understand. They seemed pleased when the conversation flowed back to the social life of the town.
眨眼之间，美女就回到了她孩童时的家中。她看到她父亲还象以前一样在做生意，她的两位姐姐还象以前一样把佣人使唤得团团转。姐姐们发现美女就在家中，相当地惊奇，纷纷朝她跑过来。她们对她在宫殿里的神秘生活，以及统治那的怪物都非常好奇， 问了一个又一个问题。
美女试图向她们解释她对野兽的倾慕之情，还有宫殿的奇妙之处，她们却不能明白。当她们的话题重新回到她们小镇的社交生活时，她们好象又高兴起来。
23. The following weeks went by in a whirl. Laughing young men coaxed Beauty to go out for walks or rides. Her father escourted her to concerts and the opera. And her sisters presented with a list of engagements that began with dress fittings and ended with fancy balls. There was not a moment left in the day for her to think of the distant palace and the sad, ugly Beast. Beauty forgot her promise to him.
接下来的几周飞一样的过去。爱取乐的小伙子甜言蜜语地哄劝着美女出去散步、骑马；父亲陪伴着她去欣赏各种音乐会和歌剧；姐姐们带着她参加各种各样的约会——这些约会总是以搭配合适服饰开始，以化装舞会结束。美女没有任何空暇想起远方的宫殿和悲伤、丑陋的野兽。美女完全忘记了她对野兽许下的诺言。
24.One night, after much gaiety and dancing, Beauty was exhausted. She fell into a fitful sleep, and as she slept she dreamed. She was back into the palace garden, now strangely dark and cold. She was searching and searching, looking for something she had lost. Then she saw the Beast lying on the ground,still as death.]
Beauty awoke from the dream striken with grief, but as last knowing her own heart. None of the young men had met, none of the things she had done, meant as much to her as the times she had shared with the Beast.
Beauty turned the golden ring three times around her finger and said aloud, "I want to be at the palace of the Beast!"
一天夜里，美女在纵情享乐和跳舞之后，已经筋疲力尽。她躺在床上时睡时醒。睡梦中， 她看见自己又回到宫殿花园里，奇怪的是那里又黑又冷。她在花园里找啊找，搜寻着她遗落的某件东西……她看见野兽躺在地上，象死了一样，一动不动。
美女从极度悲伤的梦中惊醒，现在她终于知道了什么才是对她最重要的。她遇见的任何一个年轻人，她所干过的任何一件事情，如果跟她与野兽一起度过的美好时光相比，都变得无关紧要。
美女把野兽给她的金戒指在手指上转了三圈，大声说道，“我想回到野兽的宫殿！”
25.At once she was transported through the night to the palace gates. Guided by her dream, she flung them open and ran into the garden. There she saw the still form of her beloved Beast.
美女很快就穿越了层层黑夜来到宫殿门前。在梦的指引下，美女猛地推开重重大门，飞奔进花园。她看见她深爱的野兽正静静地躺在那。
26.Fearing that he might already have left this world, Beauty dropped to his side. And taking the Beast in her arms, she gave way to her sorrow. Her tears, raining down upon his furry head, worked to revive him, and he was able to open his eys and look at her. At this she implored him," Dearest Beast, you must be strong and live so that we may be man and wife, for I love you so."
一想到野兽也许已经离开这个世界，美女非常害怕，跪倒在他身边。她把野兽抱在怀里，泪珠，一串串地滚落在野兽毛茸茸的头上。神奇的事情发生了，她的泪水让野兽活了过来，他能睁开眼睛看着她了。看到这一切，美女恳求到，“最最亲爱的野兽，你必须强壮起来，这样我才能嫁给你，因为我是如此深爱着你。”
27.When these words were spoken the world began to whirl around them. Stars fell from the sky, and the palace was illuminated as if by a thousand candles.
美女这些话刚一说完，世界就开始在他们周围旋转起来。天空中落下无数的星辰，宫殿就象被一千只蜡烛照亮了一般。
28. Before her Beauty saw not the Beast but the radiant face of a handsome young prince. For in pledging herself to the Beast, Beauty had unlocked a fantastic spell.
在她面前，美女看到的不再是野兽，而是一个年轻、英俊王子容光焕发的脸庞。因为在美女答应要和野兽结为夫妇时，她已经解开了一个神奇的魔咒。
29. Taking Beauty's hand, the yound prince explained all of the curious events to her. Some years before, a meddlesome fairy, displeased with people for trusting too much in apperances, had cast a spell over the palace and everyone in it. All of the servants were changed into animals, and the prince

30.was made to look like the uglist and most fearsome Beast in the forest. The spell would only be broken when a beautiful woman forsook all others and promised to marry the Beast in spite of his appearance. And that is what Beauty had done.
变成了森林中最丑陋、最可怕的野兽。只有当一个美丽的女人舍弃一切，也不在乎野兽的丑陋相貌，答应嫁给他，这个魔咒才能被解除。就象美女刚才做的那样。
31.There was much rejoicing within the palace that night, but no one was happier that Beauty and the Prince. They were married the very next day, and went on to live happily ever after.
那天夜里，王宫中到处洋溢着欢乐。但是最高兴的的还是美女和王子。他们在第二天就举行了隆重的婚礼，从此过上了幸福的生活。
